After 18 months on Mounjaro, I’m wrapping up my journey with it since I’m moving out of the U.S., where I won’t have access to it anymore.

I had set a goal to lose 150 pounds, and once I got to the 15mg dose (that’s when the weight loss really kicked in), I was losing about 2 pounds a week. It stayed consistent, aside from some ups and downs here and there. For the last three months, I’ve hit a bit of a plateau, only losing a pound here or there, but I’m now holding steady around 135. No complaints—I’ll take it!

I only experienced two side effects: one, every Monday after my Saturday dose, I’d be burping all day (which stopped by Tuesday). The other was a bit strange—I’ve always been a night owl, naturally falling asleep around 2 a.m. and waking up at 10 a.m., which has been my rhythm since I was a kid. But on Mounjaro, my body clock flipped, and now I’m up by 5 a.m., sometimes even 4 a.m. I absolutely hate it and hope it slowly shifts back, but I’d say it’s a small price to pay for a life-changing experience.

Starting at 335 pounds at 5'7", I’ve now reached 199, marking the first time I’ve been under 200 in who knows how long. I went from a 52-inch waist to a 38, and even now, I look at smaller pants and doubt they’ll fit, but they do.

Throughout my life, I’ve battled with weight and felt judged, often treated as if I had no self-control. That perception couldn’t be further from the truth. People who don’t experience this have no idea how much strength it takes to feel hungry almost all day, every day, when on a restricted diet. For me, if I want to lose weight, I have to stick to 1200 calories or less daily, and that means living in a constant state of hunger.

For a long time, I questioned myself and thought maybe I was just weak, until one moment on this medication changed that. I was out with friends, and halfway through the meal, I was full and pushed my plate away. I thought, “So this is what it must feel like for people who don’t deal with constant hunger.” You know, the ones who seem to eat without any major consequences. I’ll never believe it’s just a lack of discipline; to me, it’s a biological difference that science hasn’t fully explained. This medication seems to help fix it for me.
